Stained glass windows have fascinated me since I was a child. Sitting in the dark churches, with very little illumination other than the light coming through the colored shards of glass, I was filled with a sense of wonder and mystery. These windows not only illuminated and glorified the church; they told a story, teasing the imagination and pleasing our senses with delightfully rich colors radiating every hue of the rainbow.
My current work is based on these windows. I have found inspiration in some of the beautiful churches of France, England, the Netherlands and many of our local churches in this country.
From this inspiration I have created my interpretation of these windows, not using stained glass, but watercolor and gilding to mirror the images of the world around us.
